Wantage Counselling Service – a place of possibilities
Founded in 1984 to meet the needs of local people, WCS is now a BACP Accredited Service that provides a high quality, professional counselling to people living in Berkshire, Oxfordshire, Wiltshire and beyond. As a registered charity, the charges that we make for counselling aim to cover our running costs. However, we never knowingly refuse counselling on the grounds of inability to pay, and in cases of genuine financial difficulty, the fee is negotiable. We do not have a regular source of funding from outside agencies, and rely on income from grant applications, donations and other fundraising activities to make up the shortfall in order to keep the service running and responsive to increasing demand.
Counselling and new possibilities
Most of us experience times when we feel stuck, perplexed or unfulfilled in our lives or relationships. Often these issues are difficult to share with family and friends. Counselling offers the opportunity to explore thoughts and feelings in a reliable, independent relationship, where trust and confidentiality are respected and recognised as essential. At WCS our aim is to provide a safe place to talk and offer counselling for young people and adults (individuals and couples)
Counselling training and new possibilities
Embedded within many work roles there is often a requirement to counsel. To be able to listen and respond effectively to others who need space to talk through some pressing issue in their life requires a ‘skilful way of being’. To help develop such skilfulness, WCS has several well-established courses – from an Introduction to Counselling Skill, through to a Foundation Certificate (1 year) and a Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling (4 years).
