Make sure you put the evening of 9th November in your diary, for that is when Grove Parish Council, the Steering Group and The Cornerstone will be organising Grove’s Fair Trade Fayre, back bigger than ever after taking a break last year. It’s a Xmas fayre with a difference - for everything on sale will be from Fair Trade producers so you can buy safe in the knowledge that you’re helping craftspeople and communities in some of the poorest places on earth.
Among the goods on display will be a unique range of bags and baskets made from sustainable materials by the Kerala Crafts co-operative in south west India. The products are made from palm and banana fibres and coloured with natural dyes. Also on sale will be handmade cushion covers from Kashmir; Traidcraft and Tearcraft accessories, jewellery, bags and scarves; and Siwok Crafts’ range of hand-crafted wooden gifts produced by the Wichi Indians of Argentina.
There are treats in store for food lovers with a wide selection of Fairly Traded food items, from chocolate and biscuits to tea, coffee and wine, for you to sample; a cake stall where all the cakes have been made using Fair Trade ingredients; Fair Trade hampers perfect for Xmas gifts; and local food suppliers.
The highlight of the fayre, however, is bound to be the popular cat walk shows featuring the best of the Fair Trade accessories, plus a few surprises along the way!
Grove’s Fair Trade Fayre takes place at Old Mill Hall in Grove on Friday 9th November between 7pm and 9pm. Entrance is free and there will be refreshments available.
